Here are the world’s biggest charity donors… we’re talking billions

We all give money to charity – be it your cousin’s sister-in-law’s 10k run round Daventry or your brother’s Movember.
These following people however did not just hand over a few hundred pounds – they have handed over billions of pounds to charitable organisations across the world.
Given Saudi Prince Al-Waheed bin Talal’s latest pledge to donate his £32 billion fortune to charity, we should probably look at some of the biggest philanthropists alive today.

The 21st century has seen the great philanthropists of the Victorian era eclipsed by modern-day tech magnates such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg making incredibly large donations to good causes.

So here are some of the greatest donors living today:

Bill Gates – £17.9billion

The Microsoft founder has donated $28 billion (£17.9) of his fortune to his and his wife Melinda’s own charity, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
As The Richest reported, His charitable donations are not over as he and Melinda have pledged to donate in total 95 percent of his personal fortune.
So more billions on the way.

Warren Buffet – £11billion

A friend of Bill Gates and the third richest man in the world with a personal fortune of £47 billion, Warren Buffet is no slouch in the investment game.
While Mr Buffet has not only donated £11 billion to the Gates Foundation but signed a joint pledge with Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg promising to donate over half of their fortunes to charity over time. He has separately promised to donate 99 per cent of his wealth.

Warren Buffet is famous for his modest lifestyle, having lived in the same suburban family home in Omagh, Nebraska for over fifty year since buying it for less than $40,000 in 1956.

George Soros – £5.1billion

Currently ranked 29th on the Forbes Rich list with an estimated fortune of £15.4 billion, George Soros has donated his wealth to educational and healthcare institutes across the world.
He received much acclaim for financially supporting black students in Apartheid South Africa and backing progressive institutions in Eastern Europe during the Cold War.

Gordon Moore – £4.3billion

Technology pioneer and Intel founder Gordon Moore donated $6.8 billion (£4.2 billion) to his and his wife’s charity – the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
The foundation has sponsored conservation of the environment, nursing education and varied fields of science.

Mark Zuckerberg – £319million

On becoming the 16th richest man in the world after taking Facebook public, Mark Zuckerberg has taken the concept of philanthropy very seriously signing the donation pledge mentioned above with Mr Buffet and Gates.
He and his wife have been donating shares to various causes such as $100 million (£63.9 million) to public schools in New Jersey in 2010 and 18 million shares to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation valued in 2012 at $498 million (£319 million).

John and Laura Arnold – £271million

Less sexy than fighting for world peace but this power couple’s foundation has already donated over $100 million in educational grants – no small feat.
This list of big givers is not only joined by Prince Al-Waheed bin Talal but by hedge fund manager John Paulson who donated a whopping $400 million (£255 million) to Harvard University to thank the Ivy League college for his education.
This is the biggest donation the university has ever received beating the previous record made last year when venture capitalists Ronnie and Gerald Chan, made a $350 million (£223 million) donation to the school of public health.

Here are all the PlayStation games you can get for free in October!!!

PlayStation 4 (with a cat)

Every month, PlayStation offers a handful of free games through its premium subscription service called PlayStation Plus. For $59.99/year, you gain access to online multiplayer, exclusive sales on the PlayStation Store, and free games for PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4!
Here are all the games you can get for free starting October 4:

"Resident Evil"

"Resident Evil"
If you've played any kind of survival horror game in the last decade, you likely have "Resident Evil" to thank.
It's now 14 years old, if you can believe it, so some of the basics of gameplay are likely to feel a bit outdated — especially compared to "Resident Evil 4," which many cite as the best game in the series.
On the plus side, it's been remastered for PS4, so it looks a lot better than it did in 2002.
Platforms: PlayStation 4

"Transformers Devastation"

"Transformers Devastation"
You might be inclined to roll your eyes at anything "Transformers" adjacent, especially in light of the film series helmed by Michael Bay, but "Transformers Devastation" is an ode to the 1980's-era of "Transformers."
It's made by Platinum Games, the team behind the wonderfully weird "Bayonetta" series. In lieu of Bayonetta's fishnets and gun heels, "Transformers: Devastation" sports a bright, cartoony art style and a surprisingly robust combat system.
Platform: PlayStation 4

... and a handful of PS3 and PS Vita games.

... and a handful of PS3 and PS Vita games.
For those of you who are still hanging on to your PS3's and your PS Vita handhelds, there are several games you'll be able to download:
     - "Mad Riders" for PS3
     - "From Dust" for PS3
     - "Code: Realize Guardian of Rebirth" for PS Vita
     - "Actual Sunlight" for PS Vita

Here's why telephoto is the most exciting new feature on the iPhone 7 Plus

apple iphone7

Apple just introduced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The latter will ship with a long-rumored dual camera - the first of its kind on an iPhone.
There are a number of reasons to get excited about this new iPhone camera: Specs in line with the top-of-its-class Samsung Galaxy camera, the ability to generate attractive bokeh for image backgrounds, and even the ability for tech-savvy photographers to shoot raw DNG images. (I explore all that in this article.) But nothing on that list is so innovative that we have never seen it on an Android.
The one truly new, innovative feature on the iPhone 7 Plus? Its zoomed-in telephoto lens.
I'm thrilled about this unexpected development.
As I've written before, the biggest problem with smartphone cameras right now is that they're all boring, wide-angle shooters. If you have only one lens to carry with you everywhere, a wide angle is the way to go. It's good for group shots, landscapes, and close-up action.
But wide-angle lenses have some major limitations. They have odd, cartoonish perspectives that tend to exaggerate people's features. The result? Unflattering smartphone portraits.
So far, the few dual-lens smartphone cameras to hit the market havemissed the opportunity to include a longer, portrait-friendly lens. Apple's telephoto is the first we've seen. Apple has said it's twice as zoomed in as the existing lens - I'm guessing that means about the equivalent focal length of a 50 mm lens from a DSLR, which is a perfectly respectable portrait length.

The obvious benefit of a telephoto lens is taking better photos of farther-away things. But expect people to realize it makes their faces much more appealing on Instagram (or Snapchat or wherever you post) as well.

5 ways transportation will radically change by 2026

Google driverless car
Google is one of many companies trying to propel transportation into the future.
Right now, the way we get around can seem fairly lackluster.
That's mostly because we've become accustomed to emerging forms of transportation, like high-speed rails and airplanes, that were considered revolutionary not too long ago.
But we're entering an era of new forms of transportation that will make the way we get around more efficient, faster, and simply cooler.
We spoke to Peter Diamandis, a board member of Hyperloop One, on what we can expect in just 10 years. Here's what he had to say:

The Hyperloop will make transportation between cities easy and fast and could be operating worldwide by 2026.

Ok, it's not exactly shocking that a board member of Hyperloop One would advocate for the Hyperloop. But as someone who has never experienced an Amtrak train that didn't arrive late, it's exciting to considering the prospect of a new, high-speed system in the near future.
Hyperloop One is one of two US start-ups, the other being Hyperloop Transportation Technologies whose concept is depicted above, working to make the futuristic, high-speed pod system a reality.
"We’ve talked about domestically in the US, Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Los Angeles to San Francisco," Diamandis said of starting locations for Hyperloop One. "We’ve talked about Dubai, about Abu Dhabi to Dubai. Any place where you can cut back the travel time by a factor of 8 is incredible."
Diamandis has said the Hyperloop could be a reality in the United Arab Emirates by 2020. The start-up expects it to be worldwide by 2026.

Flying cars could be a reality in just 5 years.

Flying cars could be a reality in just 5 years.
When I asked Diamandis whether he thought we could ever see flying cars in our lifetime, his reply was nothing short of an enthusiastic yes.
"Oh god, yes. Oh for sure," he said. "I think we'll see a lot of demos happening in the next two or three years. And I think we'll see within 5 years, we’ll start to see them in specific places."
Whether it's flying cars or personal transport drones, Diamandis said the technology will change how people commute. People will be able to fly to designated ports or landing pads in cities, and then taking a driverless car to their final location.
Chinese drone company EHang showed off its electric, autonomous drone designed to transport a single passenger at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.
Larry Page, a co-founder of Google who is now CEO of its parent company, hasactually invested more than $100 million to develop flying cars.

Fully driverless cars will be on the road in 5 years.

"Every major car company in the world is working on autonomous vehicles of one level or another," Diamandis noted. "I think that we will see fully autonomous vehicles on the road well within five years, maybe even sooner."
Diamandis said he believes Tesla is "blowing by everybody" in the driverless car arms race. But he also said he believes Google's software will power a lot of driverless cars. He added that he's also interested in seeing what Uber and Apple are working on.

The model of "every car in a garage" will die down and be replaced by a fleet-based service.

The model of "every car in a garage" will die down and be replaced by a fleet-based service.
"I think we’ll head very quickly to a car as a service," he said. "And that changes everything, it changes where you live and work, it changes a lot of things we take for granted right now, like having a parking lot or parking garage goes away."
Having a car as a service will be cheaper than owning an actual car, Diamandis said. It will also allow people to summon cars that best accommodate what they need at a given time, like ordering a driverless car with a bed at night, but one with a conference table on the way to work.
A lot of companies are working on the kind of model Diamandis is describing. General Motors will launch its first driverless car on Lyft, and Faraday Future wants to launch a subscription-based service. Tesla is also planning on creating a shared, fleet service for its driverless cars.

Space tourism will become a reality thanks to the efforts of SpaceX and Blue Origin.

The ability to reuse rockets will allow the cost of space travel to come down, which is why Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin and Elon Musk's SpaceX efforts will eventually lead to space tourism, Diamandis said.
Musk is actually planning on landing humans on Mars within nine years.

Mercedes created a luxurious $1.7 million yacht that only 10 people in the world will be able to buy

Mercedes yacht
Mercedes-Benz is known for its luxurious cars, but the company is also behind one of the most anticipated yachts being shown off this year at the Monaco Yacht Show.
On Wednesday, the German automaker debuted Edition 1 of its Arrow460-Grandturismo yacht, a sleek-looking vessel that begins pricing at about $1.7 million. The company originally showed off its yacht concept in 2012, but later worked with the yacht building company Silver Arrows Marine to turn the concept into a reality.
The two companies plan to only build 10 Edition 1 models of the yachts and aim to only sell one in each country, making the yacht incredibly rare.
Here's a closer look at some of the other features that make the vessel so special.

The vessel is nicknamed "Silver Arrow of the Seas" after Mercedes race car called the "Silver Arrow" built in the 1930s.
